Welcome

Welcome to JPC Kindergarten

Your child’s development is our number one focus. Academically, emotionally, physically and socially, we nurture, teach and guide them to develop skills that will help them succeed in life.

Below you’ll find information about Kindergarten at JPC. More detail is in our Kindergarten Handbook, and we’ve answered common questions in the FAQs.

Week 1

Staggered start program

During the first week, children start in smaller groups so they can settle happily and get to know their teachers and friends. It also gives teachers more time with each child, so everyone feels happy and secure in their new environment.

The Kindergarten year begins on Tuesday 27 January, as Monday 26 January is Australia Day (public holiday).

Part-time children – 1 day in Week 1
  • Beginning of the week: Tuesday 27 or Wednesday 28 January
  • End of the week: Thursday 29 or Friday 30 January
Full-time children – 2 days in Week 1
  • Tuesday and Wednesday (27 and 28 January) or
  • Thursday and Friday (29 and 30 January)

The Head of Early Education will email families in early December with your child’s start date for Week 1.

Frequently asked questions

What should my child bring to Kindergarten?

Children bring several items each day. Please pack them in a named bag that your child can open and close by themselves.

Food

Pack morning tea and lunch in separate, named containers, with healthy food for each meal. Please don’t send lollies, chips or chocolate – as early childhood educators, we encourage children to learn about nutritious food. Food is kept in the fridge so it stays fresh.

We are also teaching the children to care for the environment by reusing and recycling, so we prefer a rubbish-free lunch and morning tea. Please include a spoon for yoghurt or a fork for fruit if needed.

  • Pack morning tea in the small snack bag provided to families, so it fits in our fridges. Lunch can go in a standard lunch box.
  • No insulated lunch boxes, as these can’t be stored in the fridge.
  • Food that needs heating must be heated at home and packed in a small insulated flask.
  • For the wellbeing of all children, particularly those with allergies, Kindergarten has a nut and egg-free policy. No nuts or nut products, whole eggs, egg sandwiches or quiche.
  • There is no tuckshop at Kindergarten.

Named water bottle

Children use their own water bottles throughout the day. In the first week, please check that your child’s bottle fits in the carrying container on the kitchen bench.

Clothing

  • A change of uniform clothes and underwear (spare underwear and a spare pair of uniform shorts), stored in a small cloth bag inside your child’s Kindy bag – no plastic bags please.
  • A named JPC bucket hat is compulsory. Hats stay in the children’s lockers until the end of their week.
  • Velcro sports shoes are part of the Kindy uniform. Mostly white shoes with coloured stripes are preferred.
  • A wet bag to store wet clothing.

Sheets

Sheets need to be in a named bag. The mattress is 130 × 55 × 5 cm and is covered by a fitted cot sheet. A top sheet, small pillow and cuddly toy can be included if they fit inside the sheet bag. A drawstring bag lets children take out their sheets independently. Please name both sheets and the outside of the bag.

How does drop-off and pick-up work?

Please use the Chatswood Car Park for drop-off and collection each day. It has been designed with student safety in mind and to keep traffic flowing. You must park in an allocated space to drop off or pick up a Kindergarten student – stopping to let children out of or into a vehicle puts them in danger and is not permitted.

A responsible adult must bring your child into Kindergarten and sign them in at the kiosk outside each classroom, and sign them out again at collection. Children attending Outside School Hours Care are cared for by OSHC staff and handed to their teacher when Kindergarten begins.

The Chatswood and Markwell Car Parks are very busy in the first weeks of term – thank you for your patience and for following road safety rules.

Who can collect my child?

Children must be collected and signed out of Kindergarten by an adult. At enrolment, you must provide the names, addresses and phone numbers of everyone authorised to collect your child.

Please let the Kindergarten know of any changes. Authorised people other than parents must show identification when collecting your child.

Can my child use Vacation Care or Outside School Hours Care?

Some new Kindergarten families may lose access to their current care provider once they withdraw. Families of new students from Kindergarten upwards are welcome to use the College Vacation Care Program – it’s a great way for your child to meet new friends and get to know the campus before their first official day.

To use Vacation Care during the current holidays, complete the online enrolment form through MyXplor. Bookings must be made online through MyXplor. For help, email oshc@jpc.qld.edu.au.

What is MyJPC and how do I log in?

MyJPC is the College’s all-in-one information platform for parents, students and staff. It gives you instant access to College updates, notices, newsletters, calendars and key resources in one place.

You will receive an email with your username and password about two weeks before your child starts at the College. Please make sure the College has a current email address for you, as accounts can’t be created without one, and check your junk folder in case the email is filtered as spam.

If you haven’t received your login details by the day before New Family Orientation, please contact Techsphere (itadmin@jpc.qld.edu.au).

The MyJPC Platform Guide will help you find your way around MyJPC (sign in to MyJPC to open it). User sessions for new parents are offered as part of the Orientation Program.

What are the Kindergarten hours?

Kindergarten doors open at 8.30am so children can settle before starting the day together on the mat. Attendance is marked at 8.45am.

The program finishes at 3.00pm each day, and children must be collected by 3.15pm at the latest.

Parents sign their child in and out at the kiosk located outside each classroom.
